Garmin and Ireland's Dan Martin was second in the Japan Cup.
Martin attacked with twenty kilometres to go along with Liquigas's Ivan Basso, Rafal Majka (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank) and Julian David Arredondo (Team Nippo).
On the final climb, Martin (pictured below) attacked again. But this time, he was caught and passed by Ivan Basso who won in a time of 4.01.58.
