Coventry's current British number one 100m sprinter Joel Fearon says he is learning but enjoying competing at the elite world level of athletics, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The 27-year-old, who represents Birmingham-based Birchfield Harriers, finished a creditable second behind the evergreen Kim Collins in the men's 100m at ISTAF IAAF World Challenge last Saturday at Olympic Stadium, Berlin, Germany.
Fearon, who also competes in the winter sport of Bobsleigh, posted 10.16secs, well below his best 9.96, the fourth fastest Briton all-time, which was achieved at the English Championships in Bedford last month, while the evergreen 40-year-old former world champion from St Kitts and Nevis Collins repeated his win on the Berlin track with 10.07. France's Rio Olympic bronze medalist Christopher Lemaitre came third with 10.19
"It was alright but my running wasn't the best'" said Fearon. "But having said that I'm still new in this level of athletics. So I'm just trying to get stuck in and I'm really grateful to be here in the first place and running along such great guys.
When I mentioned the fact he is now Coventry's fastest man now Fearon replied: "I'm happy to be representing Coventry!"
2004 Olympic relay gold medalist Marlon Devonish was the previous fastest man from Coventry with 10.06 which was posted in Lausanne, Switzerland back in July 2007.
Fearon will end his season this Tuesday evening at Zagreb, Croatia.
