The fight to save Coventry Speedway who could lose their Brandon home will continue say organisers of the Save Coventry Speedway campaign group.

Pete Lawrence has issued the following statement regarding the latest news:

"A quick update from our end. Today, myself and planning adviser Dave Carter met with three representatives from Rugby District Council to hear if Sandhu and Framptons had progressed their application and also to see if we could be doing anything useful at this stage. The basic summary is “no news” though it is expected that the application will still be made.

"I also telephoned Framptons to ask what progress had been made, if any and they suggested calling back in a month.

"We talked for some time with the Council about the case for preserving the stadium as a sports facility of value in the area and they have asked us to put together a document in advance which might help our case, detailing speedway’s attendance levels and other pertinent factors that may lay weight to counter any view that a) the stadium might be “surplus to requirements” as a motor sport venue, and that b) the sport may be in decline. Attendances have certainly been holding up over the last two years as far as I can see and it would be good to get figures on this from the promotion to support our case,

I also asked Framptons if they were in any way assisting Sandhu in his alleged search for a new stadium and all they offered was an unsubstantiated comment to the effect that “they’ve been looking at Perry Barr”. I'll leave you all to surmise on that one...

So in summary, no change - and the fight continues to keep speedway and stock car racing at Brandon."
