Luke Rowe will become the first ever Welshman to compete in the Vuelta a Espana.
The twenty year old has been named in the Team Sky squad for the final Grand Tour Of The Season which starts on Saturday.
Speaking on his personal website, Rowe said, "Obviously I'm delighted to have been selected for the Vuelta, and make my Grand Tour debut. At the start of the season I set my goals to be in the teams for races like Flanders, and Roubaix, and then a Grand Tour, so it's great to have achieved all those goals. We've got a really strong team for the race and I'll be looking to do everything I can to help the team achieve our GC goals, especially with Sergio Henao."
"Having not ridden a stage race of this length before it'll be a bit of a journey into the unknown, but I've been getting plenty of advice off some of the other guys in the team such as Geraint Thomas, so now I'm just itching to get stuck in. Thankfully I got a small taste of what it might be like by riding Vuelta a Burgos a few weeks ago, so one thing's for sure I know it's going to be tough! "
The 21 stage race starts on Saturday with a 27km team time trial from Vilanova de Arousa to Sanxenxo and finishes on September 15th with a 99.1km stage from Leganés to Madrid.
