Cameron Flakemore of Australia has won the Men Under 23 Individual Time Trial at the 2014 Road World Championships, Ponferrada, Spain
Ahmet Orken, the Turkish champion was first down the ramp on a 36.15km course around Ponferrada in a competition which was restricted to riders who do not ride for World Tour teams.
The 63 riders set off at two minute intervals with showers at the start line whilst up the road, Orken set a time of 29.59 at the third check point after 23.3kms.
Orken was down the list as Louis Meintjes of South Africa became the fastest man home of the early finishers in 44.38.
Great Britain had two riders competing and the first in Jonathan Dibben went down the ramp. Dibben had a great ride and went into provisional second place with a time of 44.28.22 behind leader Rafael Reis of Portugal.
Nineteen year old Scott Davies was next down the ramp as the rain hammered down, soon followed by Ireland's Ryan Mullen, who was the first rider under fourteen minutes at the first check point.
Stefan Keung of Switzerland was the last rider to start in pouring rain before Mullen set the fastest time at the second checkpoint.
Mullen, the Irish Champion finished in 43.50 in a terrific ride to take the lead Max Schachmann of Germany finished to go 54/100th of a second quicker than Dibben and move into third.
However, Australian Cameron Flakemore finished in 43.49.94 and took over the lead after closing down over twenty seconds from the third checkpoint to the finish and that was enough for him to win ahead of Mullen, Keung, who will ride for BMC next season and Reis who was knocked off the podium by a tenth of a second.
Flakemore said to the UCI press office: "I knew I was down on Ryan and I had to go in the last 5k's but I am so happy to win. I took the descent easy as i did not want to crash. Last year I had come fourth and as this is my last year I wanted to win. With Macey Stewart winning the womens, this is a great day for Tasmania and Australia."
