Team Sky's Geraint Thomas is the new British national road race champion after winning the Biritish Championship this afternoon.
In Nelson this afternoon on a tough course, Thomas and fellow team mate Peter Kennaught broke away. With ten metres to go, Cardiff born Thomas, who is in Team Sky's team for the Tour De France, went for the line and beat Kennaught to become the first to wear the white jersey with a red and blue band in Le Tour since 1992.
Ian Stannard finished third to give Team a one-two-three with Jeremy Hunt in fourth.
In the Women's race, Nicole Cook whose father and grandfather are from Coventry, finished third. She was beaten by Carvelo Test Team's Emma Pooley and Lizzie Armistead
