195 riders including Brits Bradley Wiggins and his Team Sky team mate Steve Cummings (pictured below) started the 260km race from Milan to the banks of Lake Como in Como but like most of the field, they dropped out during the race which was finished by only 34 riders.
A six man break had a seven minute lead but they were pulled back and when the descent of the Sormano started, the race was betwwen Omega Pharma Lotto's Phillippe Gilbert and Liquigas' Vincenzo Nibali.
The Italian dropped back and fellow countryman Michele Scarponi tried to stop the Belgian but he was too strong and won the face in a time of 6hr, 46 mins and 32 seconds.
Thanks to everyone for their support of our cycling reports this season. They will return when the season starts again in the new year.
