Lance Armstrong Charged With Doping

Last updated : 14 June 2012 By Kev Monks

According to the Washington Post, seven times Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong has been charged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

The American who retired in 2011, has been banned from all competitions including triathlons.

According to the paper, a fifteen page letter sent to Armstrong accuses not only the founder of the Radio Shack team but manager Johan Bruyneel plus three doctors of being "engaged in a massive doping conspiracy from 1998-2011".

Armstrong has had over 500 doping tests and never failed a single one. He issued a statement via his website which said: "I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one. That USADA ignores this fundamental distinction and charges me instead of the admitted dopers says far more about USADA, its lack of fairness and this vendetta than it does about my guilt or innocence."
