Modolo Wins The Trofeo Ses Salines

 Lampre's Sacha Modolo won the Trofeo Ses Salines in Mallorca.

The second race in the Challenge 2014 series of races in Mallorca was the 180km Trofeo Ses Salines.

Team Sky brought in Sir Bradley Wiggins (pictured below) for this race and included him in a nine man team with Ben Swift and Peter Kennaugh, with other British riders who took to the start were Adam and Simon Yates of Orica Green Edge and David Millar of Garmin Sharp.

Jan Barta, Bjorn Thurau, Illart Zuazubiskar, Pablo Torres, Emmanuel Piakowsky, Coen Vermeltfoort & Antonio Molina were the early leaders, take a lead of 7.20 with 42kms gone which had gone out by another ten seconds, some forty six kilometres later on a warm, pleasant day.

The peloton split into three groups on the road and with 60km to go the seven escapers had a lead of 3.40 on the first group and 3.55 on the second.

Twenty kilometres later and the gap had dropped to less than two minutes due to the peloton getting back together.

Coen Vermeltfoort dropped back to the peloton, leaving six riders out in front.

Into the final twenty kilometres and Bjorn Thurau of the Europcar team attacked taking a thirty second lead on Pablo Torres and 47 seconds on the peloton.

With seven kilometres remaining, Thurau and Torres was caught, setting up a bunch sprint which Lampre's Sacha Modolo won for the second day in succession, beating Team Sky's Ben Swift, Meersman,  Trentin, Reynes, Matthews, Kwiatkowski, Ventoso, Hurel and Sbaragli.
