Giant Shimano's Ramon Sinkledam has said that his victory on Stage Two of the World Ports Classic was the most important of his career.

Sinckledam took the win on a 159km stage from Antwerp to Rotterdam but missed out on the overall victory to Theo Bos on Belkin, despite winning the Young Riders competition.

Speaking to his team's website, Sinkeldam said: "I don't get that many chances to really go for the win but when I do I make sure that I give it everything so it is great to get a win here.

"It was pretty easy for most of the day until 20km to go where Nikias [Arndt] Jonas [Ahlstrand] and I came down in a small crash. We had to work to get back up to the front but the guys worked really hard for me and then Jonas did a great job of getting me in the right wheels at the end.

"The sprint opened up with 300m to go and from there it was flat out to the line. It's my first win since Hainan in 2012 so it's a great feeling and shows how my sprinting has developed, beating some big names here.

"It is a shame that the overall did not quite work out but the stage win was the important one for me and the team."
