The numbers were announced today by Amaury Sports Organisaiton for the 198 riders of the Tour De France which starts on Saturday.
The numbers being announced is normally nothing more than a basic exercise, however, with the UCI's deciding not to retire the number 108 worn by Wouter Weylandts, who was killed in a crash in the Giro D'Italia, a few days ago, some cycling fans have feel very angry on the subject.
The decision meant that a rider had to be given the number and it was announced today that Jean Christophe Peraud of AG2R will wear that number with his team Nicholas Roche of Ireland having the number 101.
Much has also been made of the news that Alberto Contador has been allowed to ride in this year's race after giving a positive test last year. He was defended at the Saxo Bank Sungard press conference in Les Herbiers by his team boss Bjarni Rijs who told an over flowing media scrum that they should question the system rather than Contador who will have number on his jersey or his team.
Talking of number one's, British road race champion Bradley Wiggins is the number one for Team Sky and he has number 111. Geraint Thomas has 117 and with Ben Swift 116.
Mark Cavendish is also the main man in the HTC Highroad team and his number is 171, whilst Garmin-Cervelo's David Millar is number 56.
