Richie Porte of Team Sky has taken over the lead of the Giro Del Trentino after victory on the second stage.
Hansen, Sterbini, Tedeschi, Evtushenko, Quaade and Postlberger formed the first break on a second 168.2km stage from Dro to Brentonico Parco del Baldo.
They were 3.30 ahead of a peloton which included race leader Cesare Benedetti of Bora Argon after sixty five kilometres and after 116kms, with now only Quaade, Postlberger, Hansen, Sterbini and Tedeschi in the escape, they had a lead of 4.15.
This was chipped away at by the peloton and they were caught going into the final forty kilometres and a new break of eighteen riders of Pozzovivo, Peraud, Cataldo, Landa, Rosa, Hesjedal, Porte, Konig, Lopez, Siutsou, Zilioli, Pirazzi, Zardini, Kudus, Cunego, Torres, Meintjes and Pimenta Costa, took over.
Team Sky did the work on the front of this group and with just under four kilometres to go, Kudus, Hesjedal and ZIlioli were dropped.
Two kilometres later and Richie Porte attacked. The Tasmanian opened up a lead of fifteen seconds on the final climb over Mikel Landa and raced away to take the stage win by twenty four seconds.
Landa finished second with Konig in third, some forty two seconds down, followed by Cataldo who was 57 seconds down with Pimenta Costa finishing two seconds later.
