`Boy wonder` Kyle Roberts of Coventry Cycle Speedway team confirmed his meteoric rise to national prominence by scooping an amazing double at Newport (South Wales) last Saturday.
The 15 year old Kenilworth School pupil, who lives in Bretford, gave a polished performance of speed, natural ability and composure to race unbeaten to win the Welsh Junior Championship final.
And, in an historic display, Roberts followed his junior title success two hours later by sensationally storming to victory in the Welsh Senior Championship final to complete a brilliant Welsh double.
Roberts brilliant double first in Wales completes a superb final month of the season for the diminutive Coventry youngster. He won the Chris Allen Memorial Trophy and the Coventry Under 17s Final to land an amazing haul of silverware.
The former Bretford Bulldogs rider has improved beyond all recognition since joining Coventry on the eve of this season. His jet-propelled starting ability and fearless racing earned him a heat leader role at Hearsall Common by the end of the season.
Roberts will now turn to the British Indoor Championships, to be staged at the Sports Connexion in Ryton early next year. He’ll be one of the favourites to earn the crown of British under 16 champion at a venue just down the road from his Bretford home.
This Sunday (2nd November), Roberts will join his Coventry team mates, and riders from throughout the UK, at the Sports Connexion venue, for indoor training and practice, as the riders prepare for the British Indoor finals.
The indoor sessions, from 7pm – 9pm, are open to all including first time Cycle Speedway riders and to cyclists of other disciplines. The sessions continue every Sunday evening until 28th December. Entrance costs are: £1.50 for Coventry Juniors, £3 for Coventry seniors, £2 for visiting Juniors and £4 for visiting seniors.
