Joaquim Rodrquez won the opening stage of the Basque Country Tour this afternoon.
The opening stage, which was 151.2km long started and finished in Zumarraga and saw a three man break stay until a top field including Andy and Frank Schleck plus Brit Steve Cummings caught them with three kilometres to go on the final climb of the day.
Radio Shack's Chris Horner (pictured below) got away with Jaoquim Rodriquez who came over the summit in the lead and he held onto win ahead of Samuel Sanchez, Andreas Klodden and Horner in a time of 4hr, 2 mins and forty one seconds.
Tomorrow's second stage of the race which ends on Saturday is from Zumarraga to Lekunberri and can be seen on Eurosport.
