Irishman Sam Bennett of Bora Argon 18 has won the opening stage of the Bayern Rundfahrt in Germany.
The main race in Germany attracted some big names including the World Time Trial Champion in Alex Dowsett of Movistar and saw the race open with a 221.3km stage from Regensburg to Waldsassen.
Jonas Koch (RNR), Eduard Vorganov (Katusha), Johannes Weber (SGT), Louis Meintjes (MTN Qhubeka), Rodolfo Andres Torres Agudelo (COL) and Benjamin Edmüller (THF) got into the first break of the day which opened up a lead of 4.20.
The break was caught and a sprint started which saw Sam Bennett win beating off Cofidis' Nacer Bouhanni and John Degenkolb of Giant Alpecin.
