Sky have been cited as one of the backers for a new cycling team which will be fronted by Sir Bradley Wiggins.
The new development squad which will hope to bring forward the next Bradley Wiggins and future British Tour De France winners will be launched in the next couple of weeks.
The squad will ride at UCI Continental level but will not be called Team Sky as the UCI do not permit two teams with the same name.
“The emphasis is to try and produce the next Brad Wiggins,” said Shane Sutton to Cycling Weekly.
“That’s part of the inspiration to have a team like that. It’s not just to inspire the rest of the nation, it’s to give those riders on the periphery the opportunities and make them aware of what it will take for them to be successful.
“I think it will be a successful model, it’s keeping the talent under one roof which is a good thing.”
So far, Andy Tennant, Mark Christian and Steven Burke have signed for what is being dubbed "Team Wiggins"
