Leamington’s golden girl Trina Gulliver MBE made it a record-breaking ten Women’s Lakeside BDO World Championship titles after defeating Deta Hedman 3 sets to 2 this evening at Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The 46-year-old, who won the Women’s world title in its inaugural year back in 2001, clinched the deciding fifth set 3-0, hitting double 18 on her match-winning throw to claim the £12,000 first prize along with the trophy.
"Finally - I'm absolutely delighted,” she told BBC Sport’s Rob Walker.
"It was always going to be a tough game against Deta. She wanted her first title and I wanted my 10th, so it was always going to be a battle.
"I was hoping for this. I've got the fire in my belly again.
“It all started in 2001 and we're here again. Ladies darts is getting stronger and stronger and stronger."
