Mark Cavendish finished third on the third stage of the Tour du Poitou Charentes.
The Omega Pharma Quick Step sprinter had won the first two stages but on a 111km stage from Montmorillon to L'Isle Jourdain, Jeandesboz, Gougeard, Salomein and Delfosse were in the day's break.
A lead of 1.40 was never going to last and they were brought back by the peloton inside the closing fifteen kilometres.
This set up a sprint but it was Nicola Ruffoni of Bardiani, who won in 2.30.43 ahead of Wanty Group's Roy Jans and Mark Cavendish.
British rider Alex Dowsett of Movistar, who is amongst the favourites for the Time Trial this afternoon was 21st.
