Thomas Keeps His Fourth Place

Team Sky's Geraint Thomas retained his fourth place in the Critérium du Dauphiné with a ninth place finish today.

The second stage was from Annonay to Bourg-Saint-Andeol and encompassed four major climbs in the 177km long stage.

171 riders tackled the Cote de Saint -Jeure-d'Ay, the Col des Nonieres which will feature in this year's Tour De France, the Col du Moulin-a-Vent and the Col du Benas and it again boiled down to a sprint as the breakaways were all caught with a kilometre to go.

Saxo Bank's JJ Haedo picked his moment to head for the line in first place with Martin Reimer second, Grega Bole third and Olympic medalist Geraint Thomas, who just missed out on victory yesterday the first Brit home in ninth place.

Other British finishers are: Russell Downing (30), Daniel Lloyd (87), David Millar (131), Peter Kennaugh (135).

Mark Cavendish has been named in a 15 man HTC Colombia squad for the Tour De France.



This will be reduced to nine riders after the Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse which Mark Cavendish will be competing in.
