Tony Martin won the Baloise Tour Of Belgium after Luis Leon Sanchez took victory in the final stage.
On a rainy day for a stage which started and finished in Banneux, the peloton split into two groups with around forty riders in the front group.
Out of this group, there was an attack and Hoogerland, Leukemans, Nys, Al, Kolobnev, Slagter, Van Avermaet, Rohregger, Clarke, Meisen and Kolobnev, all got clear. That group changed slightly with Laurens De Vreese coming in and he took the first Primus Checkpoint of the day with 125kms remaining on this 175.6km stage .
With ninety kilometres to go, Sven Nys, Laurens De Vreese and Johnny Hoogerland decided to make a break of it. They were soon caught and Greg van Avermaet, Hoogerland, Slagter, Kolobnev and Nys continued on their way with a 53 second lead over the peloton, which was being controlled by race leader Tony Martin's Omega Pharma Quick Step team.
Hoogerland took the Prix Telenet on la Redoute with 62kms remaining before De Vreese, who again had caught up to a Hoogerland attack, was the first to the Primus Checkpoint which gave him a fifteen point lead in that competition.
Five riders in Luis Leon Sanchez, Kolobnev, Hoogerland, Zingle and Tom Dumoulin who was second in the general classification took to the front on the Cote De Banneux.
After Fabian Cancellera abandoned, Sanchez went away and took a 42nd lead. Phillippe Gilbert attacked from the pack on the second visit to the La Redoute but the race leader along with Gavazzi and Kloden closed him down.
Laurens De Vreese took the final Primus Checkpoint to make sure he won the competition before Jurgen Roelandts bridged the gap to Tony Martin's chasing group who were forty seconds behind Sanchez going into the final three kilometres.
Sanchez kept going and won the stage whilst Martin came home to take the overall victory and join the list of riders who have twice won the Tour Of Belgium.
