Tony Martin of Omega Pharma Quick Step has won the Baloise Tour Of Belgium.
Campenaerts, Burghardt, Broeckx, De Troyer, Gardeyn, Cammaerts, Miletta, Stevens and Stenuit had launched the first attack of a 178.7km stage which started and finished in Oreye.
Thieir lead had been 2.10 after 55kms on a lumpy stage and with 71kms to go, it was holding steady at 2.20.
The break was finally brought to heel with 27.5kms remaining and this allowed Philippe Gilbert of BMC and Sylvain Chavanal of IAM Cycling to attack, although it was not surprising that riders of their quality were not allowed to get too far ahead.
Greg Van Avermaet of BMC and David Van Der Poel of BKCP Powerplus attacked with seventeen kilometres to go and were joined by Sep Vanmarcke & Ruijgh.
They were caught and race leader Tony Martin attacked with Tankink, and Devenyns. The trio were caught just ahead of the line and Paul Maertens of Belkin took the win. Second on the stage was Gavazzi, followed by Van Avermaet, Terpstra, Boeckmans, Gilbert, Henderson, Theuns, Meisen and Lemoine.
Tony Martin finished safely and took the General Classification by sixteen seconds from Tom Dumoulin, twenty six seconds from Sylvain Chavanel and thirty eight seconds from BMC's Philippe Gilbert.
