HTC Highroad rider and German international Tony Martin won the Individual Time Trial at the UCU Road World Championships in Denmark.
Martin who had been one of the favourites was fastest at every split of the 46.4km course around the streets of Copenhagen.
Martin who will now wear the rainbow jersey in all time trials of races, posted a time of 53 mins 43.85 seconds, some one minute and fifteen seconds faster than silver medalist Bradley Wiggins (pictured below).
Fabian Cancellera (pictured below) was third with Britain's David Millar seventh. Ireland's David McCann was 27th with Matt Brammier not finishing.
"The course was pretty flat," said Martin to the HTC Highroad Press office after the event, "I normally would prefer a few climbs, but I was able to find a good rhythm and really push myself at every opportunity to accelerate."
"It was cloudy, looking like it could rain at any moment, but we were lucky the road stayed dry and I could hit the corners faster."
"I was able to catch up to David Millar (GB) which was motivating, but my morale going into the race today was quite high. I felt great from the start."
