Lampre's Diego Ulissi made it three wins in quick succession when he added the Giro dell’Emilia to his Milano-Torino and the Coppa Sabatini wins.
The Giro dell’Emilia is a 200km race from Modena to San Luca and it was not until the 68kms mark that we had the first break of the day when Nicki Sorensen (Saxo-Tinkoff), Manuele Mori (Lampre-Merida) and Fabio Taborre (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia) got away.
Nicky Sorensen, Paulinho, Poljanski, Mori, Dupont, Honkisz, Parrinello, Facchini, Rubiano Chavez, Pagan, Tabotte and Rybakov took over on the front and had a lead of 1.40 with 69kms to go.
Although the twelve dropped in numbers to just Poljanski, Mori, Dupont, Honkisz, Facchini, Rubiano Chavez, Pagani & Taborre, with eighteen kilometres to go, everyone had been caught and Durasek and Sella attacked on the penultimate descent of the San Luca.
The final circuit saw Chris Anker Sorensen, Villella, Durasek, Scarponi, Ulissi, Pozzovivo, Rebellin, Sella, Ziliolo, Bongiorno, Zardini and Finetto lead but they struggled to get going and it was down to Ulissi, Bongiorno, Zardini, Sorensen and Villella.
Lampre's Diego Ulissi picked his moment and took the win in 5.00.53, a second ahead of Chris Anker Sorensen of Saxo-Tinkoff and four seconds of Davide Villella of Cannondale, Franco Pellizotti of Androni Giocattoli and Francesco Bongiorno of Bardiani Valvole-CSF Inox.
