Alexandre Vinokourov won the Liege-Bastogne- Liege classic cycling race this afternoon in Belgium.
One of the longest classic races, this is a 258km race with ten classified climbs and another twenty which could be.
Seven men broke away from the field which included Brit Bradley Wiggins with over 120km to go and although some dropped off as the likes of Jens Voigt, Maxine Montfort, Valderde and Cadel Evans gave chase.
They could not pull back Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana) and Alexandr Kolobnev (Katusha) and it was the Astana rider who went over the line first in a time of 6hr 37.49.
Allesandro Valverde was third with Cadel Evans fourth.
Alexandre Vinokourov said after the race that he had been dreaming about this victory and thanked his team for helping him to win.

The 26 years old German rider of Skil-Shimano perfectly completed the work of his team in the streets of Zaandam (The Netherlands). Wim Omloop finished second, Jens Moris third.
