It is “game on” in the Premier division today after Bedworth top and improving Olton and West Warwicks 3rd met at Miners Welfare Park, Bedworth. A must win for Olton as they endeavour to catch the top 2 and make the premier title more than a 2 horse race. Olton struggled to 141 all out in the 49th over thanks to a mid innings collapse 69 for 1 going to 81 for 6 as Jason Jakeman and Neil Jones removed the mid order. The Bedworth innings was a story of wickets falling at regular intervals and no batsman going on to make a score despite a few with starts. The wickets fell and were shared around the bowlers with Jamie Hawkins 3 for 13 being the pick of the figures. Bedworth 121 all out and only 4 points from the match. Aston Manor with a good win at Rugby kept up their challenge, and Bablake quietly have moved into 4th. The top 4 are now covered by less than a win. On 16th August we will have “Super Saturday ” with Bedworth at Aston Manor and Olton hosting Bablake.
It is not as close in division 1 where Marston Green now have to collapse over the last 8 fixtures to miss out on the title. This week saw them with a tricky fixture at Standard, well it appeared tricky on paper. A Ali with 5 for 37 and 50 not out was a good candidate for man of the match as Standard’s 139 proved way short of a competitive total. Marston Green winning by 8 wickets.
Division2 sees Lyndworth with a stand out performance to gain a 6 wicket victory against a Massey Fergusson side who made 267 for 4 themselves, and Knowle Village second keep up the pressure defeating Corley . The Division 3 leaders Hunningham came back to the pack when RMCC defeated them and whilst they remain top RMCC closed that gap to just 5 points between the 2 clubs. Leamington Khalsa also won and are only 11 points adrift
Divisions 4 through 6 now have 5 matches left. And division 4 see Walmley and Wolvey tied at 202 points leading the way, both won yesterday and Walmly in doing so dented Warwick’s chances, they remain 3rd. Attock and Aston Manor are nearly as close in Division 5, 4 points apart having swapped positions this weekend. Attock defeated 3rd place Bridge Trust and gained 6 points on their rivals who could only manage a winning draw when Olton and West Warks hung on 9 down for 224 chasing 263. In Division 6 another top of the table clash as Copsewood visited Continental Star. Copsewood came away victors by 2 wickets and Thimblemill also took advantage beating Newbold and pushing Continental Star down to 3rd.
