Congratulations to Sheldon Marlborough and Olton and West Warwickshire on their respective victories. On a gloriously sunny day at Hampton & Solihull CC, Sheldon won the toss against Star Alvis and on a wicket tinged with green elected to bat. Contributions of 29 no from A.Dhoofer, 27 from I.Khan and 40 from T.Mian lead them to a total of 146-6 from 20 overs. In reply, wickets fell regularly for Star Alvis and despite 41 from D.Pathak, they were dismissed in the final over for 114 and Sheldon could celebrate a 32 run victory, their first success in the competition. The Band A final was eagerly anticipated with Olton & WW looking for a possible double and Nuneaton looking to continue their successful run in the competition this year and win the trophy for the 1st time. Lee McNeill of Nuneaton won the toss and, believing that they could continue their run of successful chases elected to field. After the early loss of Chowdhary for 2, a partnership of 94 between Liam Gateley (52) and Mike Solerno (48) looked to be leading Olton to a large total, however good bowling from Brad Gledfield (3-34) pulled Nuneaton back into the contest and Olton finished their innings with a total of 163-7. Nuneaton's reply began badly, Lee McNeill and Kyle Taylor both fell for 0 within 2 overs and the bowling attack from Olton never relinquished their grip after that. Despite Adam Walters (22) and Marco Higgins (16) doing what they could to rebuild, wickets fell regularly and Nuneaton fell away to eventually be dismissed for 75, leaving Olton winners by 88 runs and half way towards a double as they take on Handsworth on Saturday in a winner take all Premier Division title decider. Ian Cherry presented the Nigel Cherry Trophy to the captain of Olton and West Warwickshire, Phil Trilloe and another highly successful T20 Finals Day concluded on a truly golden sunny evening with grateful thanks to everyone at Hampton & Solihull CC for their hard work in making the day the success it was. |
