Coventry Blaze coach Chuck Weber said that his side are a work in progress after their 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Panthers in a pre-season game.
Speaking to the Blaze website, Weber said: "It looked like the first exhibition game of the year. There was a lot of sloppiness but there were some good things as well.
"You could tell we are still a work in progress conditioning-wise but I thought some of the kids showed up well.
"We got to see some of them in different situations you might not see them in during the regular season. There are things to build on."
