Warwickshire's Jon Trott scored 72 for England in their one day internatonal victory against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford.
England put on 85 before they lost openers Alistair Cook and Craig Kieswetter.
Kevin Pietersen went for five before Trott and Eoin Morgan put on 118 for the fourth wicket which saw Morgan stumped after making 57.
Trott was then partnered by fellow Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell but the duo put on only nine runs before Bell was caught by Kulasekara.
Trott was next out to give Randiv his third wicket. Randiv also took the wicket of Patel and Tim Besnan to record a five wicket haul and when Graeme Swann was run out, England ended their fifty overs on 268-9.
In replay, Tim Bresnan struck early taking two wickets with a catch for Trott and in the ninth over, Jimmy Anderson had Jayawardene caught to leave the Tourists on 29-3.
Ninety five runs were added for the fourth wicket which saw Chandimal stumped by Kieswetter after making 54 including two sixes.
In the 31st over, former Warwickshire overseas player Kumar Sangakkara was bowled by Tim Bresnan for 48.
The tourists continued to find the bat and added a further 102 before Mendis was out, caught by Pietersen.
With three overs to go, Sri Lanka still needed 27 more runs. England were given hope when first Kulasekara, Sandiv was run out and Mathews who had made 62 from 64 balls was caught by Bresnan.
Jade Dernbach was the bowler and with his next ball, he bowled Malinga with a yorker to give England a 16 run victory and a 3-2 series win.
