Warwickshire County Cricket Club piled on the runs on the second day of their County Championship game against Middlesex at Edgbaston.
Resuming on 123-4, Warwicks lost Ateeq Javid who was caught after adding one run to his overnight tally and Keith Barker who was caught and bowled by Steven Finn for nine.
Tim Ambrose and Jeetan Patal came together at the crease and put on a superb 175 before Patal was caught behind by Simpson after making 105 from 135 including two sixes and eleven fours.
Ammbrose batted on, having a hit a century off 190 balls and although he lost Richard Jones, for fifteen, the wicket keeper and Chris Wright put together another big partnership for the ninth wicket.
It turned out to be a record stand for a ninth wicket against Middlesex of 113 as Ambrose, who had now past the 150 mark and Wright played some cracking shots.
In the 141st over and with Warwickshire on 461, Wright was out, stumped by Simpson for fifty two.
Ambrose finally went for 167 being caught and bowled by Malin and Warwicks were all out for 462.
Middlesex faced one over before stumps. Keith Barker bowled a maiden and Middlesex will resume their second innings tomorrow needing 295 runs to stay in the match.
