Coventry born Ian Bell completed his century for England on the final day of the opening test match with Sri Lanka at Cardiff.
Bell resumed on 98 not out and when play finally got under way around 3pm, the Warwickshire batsman hit a single and a four to take him to 103 and saw England declare on 496-5.
Chris Tremlett ripped into Sri Lanka along with Graeme Swann, taking eight wickets.
Bell and Cook took important catches and Sir Lanka were all out for 82 to give England a win by an innings and 14 runs.
