Nairo Quintana Wins Volta A Catalunya

Nairo Quintana of Movistar has won the Volta a Catalunya.

The final stage which has Nairo Quintana with a seven second lead over Alberto Contador was a 134.6km stage which started and finished in Barcelona (Montjuïc).

Mas (Caja Rural), Lammertink (Roompot), Mohoric (Lampre), King (Cannondale), Arndt (Giant), Courteille (FDJ), Bouwman of LottoNL-Jumbo. Armee (Lotto Soudal),  Alexey Tchatevich of Katusha and Slovakian Primoz Roglic  and Dron (Wanty) got into a break and Armee took the climb Alt de l'Ulastrell climb after 27kms.

Armee also took the Alt de Corbera climb and Bouwman took the sprint at Sant Vicenç dels Horts after 52kms.

Luis Mas attacked as the break started to fall apart. Chris Froome also tried a raid out of the peloton but on the last lap, the two out front of Alexey Tchatevich of Katusha and Slovakian Primoz Roglic were 28 seconds ahead of the chase group which included Joaquim Rodriquez before Dan Martin dragged the bunch up to Rodriquez's group as Michael Nieve of Team Sky went off the front.

As the chase group who brought back Nieve looked at each other, Alrexey Tchatevich went away and won in 3.13.32 ahead of Primoz Roglic of LottoNL-Jumbo, followed by Pantano, Poels, Impey, Uran, Molard, Bardet, Gasparotto and Barbero.

Nairo Quintana finished safely and won the race with a margin of seven seconds over Alberto Contador.

Irishman Dan Martin of Etixx Quick Step finished third overall with Chris Froome eighth and Hugh Carthy ninth.
