Wout Poels of Team Sky has won the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana opening stage in Valencia, Spain.
The course was a hilly 16.25km one for the 55 riders who took part including Nicholas Roche of Team Sky.
However, it was his team mate - Wout Pouls who was soon top of the leader's board finishing in a time of 22.34.73, finishing some twenty six seconds quicker than Jesus Herrada of Movistar.
It was a time that proved too good for the field with Astana's Luis Sanchez finishing second, some fourteen seconds down and Team Sky's Vasil Kiryienka some twenty seconds back with Astana's Diego Rosa in fourth and Herrarda in fifth.
The Dutchman Poels takes the yellow leader's jersey going into stage two.
