Wilco Kelderman (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Andrey Amador (Movistar) joined them and they had a lead of 32 seconds going into the final kilometre.
BMC’s Tom Bohli joined them with 600 metres to go but Michael Albasini attacked with 400 metres left and the Orica GreenEdge rider took the win ahead of Amador, Kelderman, Bonifazio and Hofland.
