Belgium's Greg Van Avermaet took the Gold Medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Mens Road Race.
Fort Copacabana was host to the start and finish of this 237km race and straight away, Simon Geschke (Germany), Michal Kwiatkowski (Poland), Svan Erik Bystrom (Norway), Michael Albasini (Switzerland), Jarlinson Pantano (Colombia) and Pavel Kochetkov (Russia) launched a break.
They had a lead of seven minutes which was down to five minutes as they took on the two Grumari Natural Park circuits.
Chris Froome, Cancellera, Gilbert and Van Avermaet were chasing and they helped bring the break down to three minutes.
Adam Yates and Chris Froome both had to change their bikes as Kwiatkowski and Kochetkov got into the break, before on the ascent of the Vista Chinesa Castroviejo swung off with Kwiatkowski who was briefly joined by Simon Clarke.
It was Vincenzo Nibali, Majka and Henao on the front before Nibali and Majka crashed as did Geraint Thomas.
Majka got back up and carried on but Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium and Jakob Fuglsang of Denmark passed the Pole and Van Avermaet took the win and the gold medal in 6.10.05 with Fuglsang taking silver and Majka the bronze.
Geraint Thomas finished 11th with Chris Froome 12th, Ireland's Dan Martin was 13th, with Adam Yates 15th and Nicholas Roche 29th out of 63 finishers.
