Warwicks Beaten At Derbyshire

Warwickshire County Cricket Club were beaten in a T20 North Division game at Derbyshire by six wickets this afternoon.

At Leek, Warwicks loss the toss and were put into bat. In the third over, they had Neil Carter stumped and had also lost Varun Chopra for eleven and Will Porterfield for the same amount before the end of the powerplay.

By the halfway mark and with Darren Maddy and Jim Troughton at the crease, they had only managed to take the total to 60-3.

Thankfully, the Derbyshire fielders were not on form and three catches were dropped in the eleventh over.

Warwicks were struggling against the spinners and Darren Maddy was out in the thirteenth over, stumped by Sutton after making 21 runs.

With five overs left, the Bears had only made 88-4. Jim Troughton graped the mantle hitting two sixes to up the run rate. He finished on 55 not out with Rikki Clarke 25 not out as Warwicks ended their innings on 137-4.

Derbyshire hit four runs from the first over of their innings from Jeetan Patel and had moved their total on to 29 after four overs.

With the score on 53, Stefan Piolet had Durston trapped lbw whilst Martin Guptill at the other end was hitting sixes for fun before and after Hughes was caught by Piolet off the bowling of Ant Botha.

With the first ball of the 15th over, Guptill was finally out for 72, caught by Barker to give Maddy a wicket and six runs later, Barker bowled Madsen.

Park and Whiteley took Derbyshire to a position where they needed four runs from the remaining two overs and were able to get the runs to give them a six wicket victory with seven balls to spare.

Warwicks are back to County Championship action with a trip to Arundel to face Sussex this week.
