Results from Bank Holiday Weekend
29/08/2011 - Graham Seal
On Saturday weather was the winner in the WCL this week and robbed the league of seeing the top two reach conclusion. Olton having declared at 234 in 49 overs in a rain affect match as so many were saw Streetly in 25 over reach 125 for 4.
Although the points were shared as a draw Streetly scoring
at 5 an over to their opponents 4.77 gained the upper hand and kept their place as hot favourites to gain a BDPCL place. Streetly made it a winning weekend when on Monday they had Solihull Blossomfield 139 all out, obtaining 20 points, 144 for 6 with Lloyd 56. Olton and west Warwicks repaired some of Saturdays damage with an emphatic 94 run victory at Ansley who are now relegated.
Division 1 saw a good weekend for Four Oaks Saints who have now opened up a 23 point gap over Southam. Saints had 2 24 point wins this weekend. The first on Saturday with wright 117, s.shah 74 helping them to 301 for 5.
Their opponents Walsall WMF were in the hunt for promotion themselves but faced with the task of scoring 300 plus to win wilted to 148 all out. Then on Monday the Four Oaks Bowling attack with Hamza Nadeem taking 6 for 43 dispatched Pickwick for 133. Southam are keeping up the chase with wins against Bronze and Pak Shaheen but crucially only 20 pointer and so ground by 8 points. Stockton mean while had a weekend to forget as rain halted play on Saturday after they had scored 246 for 3, Moseley Ashfield at 10 for 0 and then in the local derby at Offchurch, 2 ex Willoughby Salver sides met
again, and Offchurch ran out victors in a low scoring match.
No that much was resolved over the weekend in Division 2, were Rugby Lyndworth and Standard are covered by 11 points, chasing 2nd spot. Marston Green had lost ground to Rugby on the Saturday when their match lasted only a few overs closing at 15 for 0 in the first innings, 4 points each. Rugby won at Corley so set up 1st vs 2nd on the Monday at Marston Green. With Rugby 13 points behind. A Rugby win might well have seen them top so a real 24 pointer this one. Rugby battng first were below par on the Marston Green ground with 212 for Robarts 47, and 7 Broome 4 for 57 the pick of the bowlers. Marston Green with Ullah 87 and Poulton 45 made the win scoring 216
for 6. The division is now in their hands 33 points up and 3 to play.
In the lower division on the last but one day several divisions were
