Another top effort by grounds men across the Warwickshire League this week saw many fixtures played and some great team and individual performance. In the 3rd XI and Single Team league Rob Sumner playing for Solihull Blossomfield 3rds took 9 for 28, the best opf the day and of the season in the leagues. There were also 2 scores over 150, M Bismillah 171 out of 301 for Peugeot 2nds, and in the top division Dangerambezi made 166 of 308 for 8, which was also joint top team score of the day, shared by Bedworth with near neighbours Collycroft as the bottom 2 met in division 4. Collycroft's victory leaves them still in the relegation places but they swaped places with Lapworth who held out on the day with 214 for 7, in the highest scoring fixture in the league. Division 4 remains a close affair with Oakfiled notably beating the top club Aston to go 3rd, whilst RMCC also close the gap with a win over Dunlop. The Premier league remains the King's Heath show, another win this week, Ollie Thomas 123, John Pemberton 95 sharing most of the 241 needed for a win at Bablake. Handsworrh remain in 2nd place with a 20 point win at Fillongley who drop down 2 places. Sutton Coldfield kept in touch playing Nuneaton at Rectory Park. Only Ruben Field and Russel Rice batting 4 and 5 offered real resistance and when they departed to Graham Clark and Mark Guest respectively, Clark and Guest disposed of the remaining 5 Nuneaton batsmen for 8 runs between them. Clark and Guest then shared a brief 3rd wicket partnership to steer Sutton to a 8 wicket win after Jack Smith with 31 led the way at the top of the order. If Castle Bromwich could bat they would have won the second division already, as it seems most weeks their bowlers knock the opposition over for very few. This week Standard however took the mighty Castle Bromwich attack for its fist 200 run total of the year, would the Castle Brom batting finally step up a gear, the answer sadly for them was a resounding "no". Mc Bean 3 for 2, Patel 3 for 18 and Castle Bromwich lost top spot at 51 all out. Standard helping Lyndworth into top spot as they beat Moseley Ashfield in equally emphatic fashion needing less than 20 overs to knock off the 130 runs to win (M Azam71 Not Out. Mohsin 50 Not Out). This division is now very close with Hampton and Solihull winning at Massey Fergusson to move along side Castle Bromwich on 148 points, and Solihull Municipal (Alex Roslyn 7 for 6) demolishing Sheldon Marlborough for 26 to go 4th on 140 points. The 3rd XI and Single Team league still has not had a side grab it by the horns and make it their own. I am missing a result from Attleborough, if they won they are top, if the lost with no points they are 6th., in fact 1st down to 8th are still covered by 1 win. Water Orton pinched top spot this week winning at Sutton Coldfield, whilst Walsall saw their game fall foul to weather. Small Heath BC suffered a similar fate missing out on a match with bottom club Aston Manor which meant Highway and Attock playing each other both had a chance of 2nd place. Highway claimed this prize with a 7 wicket victory and their opponents instead of 2nd ended up 7th !. The real story of this league is the number of weather affected matches but hopefully as we enter the 2nd half of the season next week we will see more cricket and more sun !.
