On a day of sunshine and a few showers a vast improvement on 12 months ago the WCL got underway with a full program in the top 3 Divisions of the league. The first result came in at around 18:00 and saw Studley 2nds defeat Walsall WMF by 8 Wickets. New boys Coleshill polished off Olton impressively winning by 10 wickets in the first result in the Premier division with J Ahmed just missing out on 50 and 5for with 47 not out and 4 for 24. Bablake with a swift run chase had Josh Manning 98 and Jason Pyott 62 to thank for their 7 wicket victory at Highway the runs coming off just 35.1 overs when rain shortened the second innings. Rain also affect the drawn matches at Nuneaton the match closing with Bedworth 9 runs short and 1 wicket left in the tightest finish of the day in the Premier, and the Fillongley , Sutton match. Wins for Four Oaks Saints, and Handsworth completed the results in this division. In division1 only Barby and Solihull Blossemfield were winners against Lyndworth and Hampton respectively, all other matches were drawn. In division 2 all the three winner received 20 points batting second, whilst Sheldon Marlbourough winning at Hunningham were the only 24 pointers in Division 3, this division seeing 5 winner and only one match drawn with Weoley Hill hanging on against North Warwickshireone of only 2 sides to top 250 on an opening days were all matches seem to have been played but in cold and damp conditions with some rain in the air which appears to have seen the ball dominate the bat, with runs at a premium.
