After last week’s total washout it was nice to see a near to full program in the Warwickshire League this weekend. Much of the interest in the build up to this weekend's matches focused on the Kenilworth v Nuneaton match with Ashley Giles making his debut for Nuneaton. Kenilworth's groundsman had done a sterling job and the game started on time. As it turned out, Giles was not required to bowl as the long-standing Nuneaton opening bowling partnership of Russell Rice and Lee McNeill ran through the Kenilworth batting to leave the home side 49 all out, McNeill taking six, Rice four. Nuneaton eased to an eight wickets win with Taplin and Giles seeing them home, Giles showing a brief glimpse of why he was such an excellent Test number eight. Nuneaton at this stage of the season are mid table this having ben their first win, and the trail leaders Aston Manor by 50 points. Last year’s relegated Birmingham league side again showed their class on Saturday at Bedworth, were equally impressive efforts had been made by the grounds staff to remove several 100 litres of water from the outfield on the Friday allowing the match to start on time. Predictably this was also a low scoring match although a lot closer than might have been predicted at half way, which saw Aston Manor’s bowlers, Aurrel Kimon 5 for 26 reduce Bedworth to 90 all out. Sam Smart and Ross Parnell offering the only real resistance batting 6 and 7. Aston Manor in response saw Sam Smart impress and as the visitors slumped to 51 for 6 an unlikely victory seemed in sight, but Kimon with 32 and top score from number 8 guided Aston Manor to the brink of victory to claim the man of the match. Rugby go second above Bedworth with a win over Fillongley Southam dropped from 1st to 3rd in the first division Barby taking a 10 to 2 winning draw off then on the day, whilst Solihull Municipal defeated Highway by 5 wickets (a 12 point swing) and Marston Green took maximum points at Studley having scored an impressive 260 for 6 (Suleman 127). Division 2 saw not much change with the top 4 all having the better of results, Knowle Village and Knowle and Dorridge with wins, Corley with a winning draw swapping places with Massey Fergusson who won. The division remains very close 1 win covering the top 5. A similar situation exists in division 3 where no one clubs us dominating proceedings. This week saw a new Leader , Hunningham, with Leamington Khalsa going down at RMCC. Hunningham defeated Ansley by 58 runs after 2 weeks ago defeating then unbeaten Dunlop. This week Dunlop returned to winning ways, Faisil Raiz again their star with 6 for 27.
