It is getting a little repetitive unfortunately this season, in that again we have to congratulate the groundsmen in the WCL who worked tirelessly to get games on. Several had frustrating afternoons in a couple of matches immediately the mopping up work completed the heaven opened and another match the rain came just as the players walked onto the pitch. Amongst all the rain there were some oases of cricket. In the premier division Olton and West Warwick were the only winners on the day, playing Fillongley, the umpires and captains working together moved the play to an alternate pitch on the square when torrential rain on Friday managed to get under the covers. Fillongley, winning the toss batted making steady progress to 65 for 3 when Ahsan Syed joined Andrew Carty. They then proceeded to put on 66 for the 4th wicket, Carty out for 56. As fillongly slumped to 157 for 7 their visitor may have been thinking of an early tea but the best partnership of the innings 86 between Sayed and Andy Moore was yet to come, Syed 111 (109 balls 12 fours and 4 sixes) and Kevin Crotty with 3 for 43 the pick of the bowling. 243 for 8 then seemed competitive. However Callum Lamb and Gary Hawkins had different ideas as they put on 167 for first wicket, Lamb with 91 of these off 74 balls, Hawkins then completed his hundred to end 102 not out, there were 18 over to spare. This take Olton and West Warwicks 3rd albeit 26 points adrift of abandoned Bedworth. Aston Manor made up ground in a draw affect by weather at Handsworth and they and Bedworth are now 1 point apart at the top of the table. Marston Green lead the first division, 20 points against Ambleside, as the Solihull Municipal match was cancelled, both clubs with 7 wins. Solihull Municipal having a record 7 wins and 3 abandoned share with Southam Seconds a record of winning every match played. Division 2 , now has Lyndworth separating the two Knowle Clubs, with Lyndworth obtaining 14 point in a none rained off match. Hunningham continue to lead a division 3 where 2nd down to 7th are separated by 10 points The revival of Warwick Cricket club continues in Division 4 were the 3 W’s lead the league, Wolvey, Warwick, Walmley. Warwick this week had one of the more emphatic victories in the WCL beating Griff and Coton by 9 wickets after Skittling the Nuneaton club for just 65. Wolvey and Walmley should have been the game of the day in the division but like many the frustration of heavy and torrential showers, washed them out with Walmley 130 for , such that they received. 4 and 5 points respectively. Sunday saw a commemoration of the ex league Chairman and local cricket supporter, Mike Kiernan with a 6 a side event at Offchurch CC, the WCL wishes that event which is raising money for charity the best.
