This week saw the first match of the second half of the season Fillongley welcomed Bedworth this week in a North Warwickshire premier league clash, with the clubs having differing fortunes this year, Bedworth top and Fillongley bottom. With Beworths main rivals Aston Manor having a tricky fixture in hosting Four Oaks (not the force they have been in previous years but still a decent outfit), Bedworth saw this match as an opportunity to cement their top spot. Fillongley reached a respectable 179 in 42 overs, Sam Smart again a Bedworth star with 6 for 36, Bedworth looking however the favourites at tea . However a hour later with Jakeman, Jones, Paeacock and Smart returned the pavilion by Sayed and Moore it looked a different prospect Bedworth 31 for 4, enter Neil Jones to join Dangarembizi. This pair added 85 for the 5th wicket and returned top vs bottom order as Bedworth made it home by 3 wickets. That match at Aston Manor, needed the manor to win to keep in touch and with 248 in their 50 overs that looked a likely conclusion. However C Wright 126 Not Out had other ideas and the saints marched home with 3 overs and 5 wickets to spare to inflict Aston Manors first defeat of the season. The results leave Aston Manor now 25 points more than 1 win back. Meanwhile Olton and West Warwick’s good recent form continued, Nuneaton their visitors going down by 7 wickets in 43 overs despite making 245 for 7. Olton are now only 6 points behind the manor in 3rd,. , Bablake 4th a further point back Division 1 almost seems a done deal even though we are only half way thru the season. Marston Green now have 9 wins in 12 matches or which another 2 were abandoned, and 213 points, ahead of Solihull Municipal 8 wins with 3 abandoned and 191 points. However there is a long way to go and another club could come out of the chasing pack. Division 2 and Division 3 in contrast ae wide open. Division 2 has had Knowle Village near the top all season but without making a decisive break, This week they drop a few points at Rowlands and Lyndworth beating Aston closed the gap again. Corley, Knowle and Dorridge and several others however remain in touch. Likewise Division3 has been close all season. RMCC 2nds with 154 points are only 2 wins off the relegation zone so anyone making a run of a few matches could win this one. It might have been even closer had the result been different when Bournville 3rd at the start of the day hosted top club Hunningham. Hunningham however overturned their rivals with 222 for 7, Lewis Mundy 54 and Charlie Wale 69 leading the way after 3 early wickets. Mark Maskell and Marcus Mundy then made short shift of the Bournville batting as the visitors collapsed to 87 all out in the 35th over. Maskells 5 for 25 coming from 15 overs and 4 maidens.
