Specials Legend Nev Staple is set to play in Coventry for the first time in 18 months.
He will be bringing his own unique brand of ska to Coventry University’s Square One venue on December 8th in a triple line-up show promoted by the ska experts 2-Tone Central.
Coventry music historian and Director Pete Chambers at 2-Tone Central said of the gig. “This is a rare chance to see the front-man of the Specials bring his own show to his native city. Listening to all those iconic songs is a great experience, especially in the city that help to create many of them. Even better that it’s the season to be jolly, so a cheeky skank or two is on the cards, be rude not to. Above all this is a fundraiser gig to help fit-out Coventry’s own Music Museum, something very important for this musical city of ours.”
Look out for this ‘Christmas’ fundraiser for the Coventry Music Museum, sponsored by Coventry Market and The Print Works. The Specials star will be performing at Square One, The Hub, Coventry University on Sat 8thDecember. Support comes from one of the biggest and nuttiest bands around Kidderminster’s The Stiff Joints whose reputation as a crowd pleaser is growing at every gig. Opening the show is rapper, poet musician Johnny Concrete, one of Sam McNulty’s discoveries, and very much a real Coventry talent and one to watch in the future.
With DJ Nutty Beats & DJ Dave and Touch FM’s Brody Swain as MC. There’s also going to be a silent auction of exclusive signed Specials memorabilia (including 2-Tone Café Table-top graphics signed, by all six Specials plus Aitch Bembridge, Charley Anderson, Pauline Black, Stella Barker and Rhoda Dakar) Tickets are £12 in advance, and £15 on the door and are available at the 2-Tone Village, Skopes Menswear West Orchards, Vinyl Destination Coventry Market and on line at www.2tonecentral.co.uk The concert is 18 Plus only.
