Coventry Music Museum One Year Old

Last updated : 26 October 2014 By PC

On Saturday 1st November The Coventry Music Museum celebrates its 1st Birthday, with a visit from Ska legend Rhoda Dakar, former Bodysnatcher and member of The Special AKA. It all begins at 12.00 noon, with a Sounding Off Interview with Rhoda  hosted by Pete Chambers, followed by a CD signing session from Rhoda. The very first Museum Artist of the Month David Butler, will also make a return. Wristbands are essential, and are available from the museum. To celebrate the museum has commissioned a very special 1st Birthday design by Dean Eastment, depicting its four Honorary Patrons, Frank Ifield, Hazel O’Connor, Pete Waterman and Neville Staple based on Mount Rushmore, as we think they are all monumental.

In 12 months the museum run entirely by volunteers has seen: nearly 4000 visitors coming from every area of the UK, from 32 different countries and from every Continent. The museum is still top and has stayed at number one for ten months, in the Trip Advisor review site in the Coventry Attractions category. An amazing achievement for a small independently run community museum in its prime. The Ball Hill based museum has welcomed schools, students, musicians, stars, radio presenters and at least five TV crews, Lord Mayor’s, Councillors and journalists.

Here are just a few of the hundreds of positive comments made about the museum:

The Best Museum I have ever visited”

“Best day out..Ever”

“Best attraction in the Midlands”

“Best museum in Coventry”

“Coventry’s Finest”

Director Curator Pete Chambers said, “I want to thank everybody for their amazing support so far. To those who are yet to visit, come along and see our unique atmosphere. Our Lottery funded Sounding Off events have been groundbreaking and future artists from the city are not ignored as we showcase them as our Artist Of the Month. We ask the Coventry infrastructure to please keep helping us to grow, please don’t ignore us. As we are bringing in visitors to this great city of ours, and telling its amazing musical stories, here’s to the next 12 months”.
