Garry Bushell in Coventry
On 24th March at 2.00pm outspoken tabloid journalist and music guru Gary Bushell along with Paul Hallam will be signing copies of his book Dance Craze (the original 2tone book) at the 2-Tone Village on Ball Hill Coventry, CV2 4ED. There will also be a Q & A session and Garry will read selected parts of the original 2-Tone book, originally published in magazine form in1981.
Ska fan and Music Journalist Pete Chambers had this to say about the book: "Dance Craze tells the tale of the unexpected journey of the ska elite, with bands like The Specials, Madness, The Selecter and Bad Manner and The Beat, all going under the microscope of finger-on-the-pulse Bushell (a former Sounds journalist). It’s a joy to read and indeed to look at, with page after page of nostalgia inducing pictures and adverts mainly from the early 80’s. Selling at £9.99 it truly is a must- have for the black and white chequered brigade"
So how does Garry feel about coming back to Coventry?
“Yeah, I'm looking forward to coming back to Coventry. I've not been there for a while; I have special memories of the city and the people”.
What made you feel the time was right to re-write Dance Craze?
“I kept being asked to make the magazine available again but when I read it I thought the original wasn't up to scratch which is why I went back to my diaries and notebooks to expand the articles I'd written back in the day as 2-Tone was happening. I think the book now has much more going for it than the mag did”.
In the evening of 24th Garry & Paul will also be presenting an exclusive DJ set at the Village Aid fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust and 2-Tone museum project
Tickets for the book signing event are just £2.00 and are available at The 2-Tone Village and at www.2tonecentral.co.uk
