Coventry City face an important Championship fixture against Norwich City tomorrow at the Arena.
Micky Adams has already admitted that his days at the club could be numbered after the defeat at Palace on Tuesday but knows he must get the side back to winning ways if they are to have any hope of avoid a drop into League One come April 30th.
City will again be without skipper Stephen Hughes who is suffering with an Achilles injury but will include midfielder Don Hutchison who joined the Sky Blues on loan until January 3rd after being released by Millwall.
Nigel Worthington is also facing a tough time at Carrow Road following their relegation from the Premiership. The Canaries have yet to find the form which saw them climb out of this division two years ago and were beaten 1-0 at bottom side Millwall on Tuesday night.
One player looking forward to the game is Calum Davenport. Loaned out to the Canaries by Spurs, the defender whose departure from Highfield Road was seen as a bad business move by the City board, is relishing the chance to play against his former club and to mark one of his mates Gary McSheffrey.
Said Davenport to the Norwich Evening News: “Gary was actually in the year above me in the youth team, but we shared the same hostel together as kids and we still speak regularly - in fact, I only spoke to him on Wednesday night. “It'll be quite strange as I'll probably be the one marking him. “I saw that he's been in the goals recently, but I've played against him a lot in training so I know what his game is all about and I'll certainly kick him!. “Will I be buying him a drink afterwards? I don't know about that - he certainly wouldn't buy me one!”
Youseff Safri is also expected to play and receive a good ovation from the City faithful who will have a mixed reaction to Darren Huckerby. The striker was popular at Highfield Road but an obscene gesture he made towards City supporters whilst playing in an FA Cup tie for Manchester City which in turn sparked a riot has soured relations in past years.
Hopefully making sure that this game will be remembered for the right reasons will be referee Rob Styles who was in charge of City Reserves 1-0 victory at Southampton on November 8th.
This will be the 99th meeting between the two sides with Coventry having won 43and drawn 29,scoring 146 goals compared to Norwich’s 121. The game on the opening day of the season which was switched to Norwich due to the Arena not being ready saw a 1-1 draw.
The last time Norwich played in Coventry was a 0-0 draw in a friendly at Highfield Road on July 31st 2004.
Tickets are available with U16’s able to get in for a pound. Norwich have sold 2,700 tickets and expected to bring over 3,000.
