WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1887 as a church football team. They played under the name of Barnsley St Peters until it was changed in 1897,a year before they joined the Football League.

The Tykes first game in the Football League was in 1898 with a 1-0 defeat Lincoln City.

FA Cup winners in 1912,Barnsley played one season in the Premiership in 1997-98 after finishing as Div 1 runners-up. They dropped briefly to League One for two seasons but were promoted via the play-offs in May back into the Championship.

Former Sky Blue John Hendrie has managed Barnsley and their current manager is Simon Davey who took over from Andy Richie last season.

THE LAST TIME
This will be the 45th time the two sides have met. City have won on nineteen occasions with eleven draws. Both games last season resulted in City wins.

On March 17 this year, goals from Jay Tabb, Michael Mifsud and Dele Adebola gave City a 4-1 win. Bobby Hassell scored for Barnsley. At Oakwell, a late Wayne Andrews goal gave City a 1-0 win.

TEAM NEWS
Iain Dowie has already named his side but his main doubt is David McNamee who has a calf strain but should be ok to play. Leon Best is very doubtful with a sore knee. Gary Borrowdale will be given his debut at left back after impressing in pre-season.

Simon Davey has brought in former Sky Blue loanee Rohan Ricketts,Marciano Bruma,Migeul Mostto, Andy Johnson (from Leicester), Kayode Odejayi and Lewin Nyatanga and is also trying to sign two more players before the game. Former Sky Blue Martin Devaney could also feature.

He is without the injured Marciano Bruma and Bobby Hassell and is likely to shift Rob Kozluk to right back and bring in Domink Werling at right back. Lewis Nyatanga could also start. New German keeper Heinz Muller who signed a three year deal could also feature.

MATCH OFFICIALS
Referee is Steve Mathieson. His assistants are M.Naylor and Gary Stretton. The fourth official is N.Murphy.

The last time Mr Mathieson was in charge of a City game, the Sky Blues lost 2-0 at Sunderland back in February.

HOW TO GET THERE

By Car
Leave the M1 at Junction 37 and follow signs Barnsley Football Club/Football Ground.These signs lead directly into the visitors car park.

With a number of other sets of supporters using the M1 to get to matches,leaving a bit earlier is recommended.

By Train
Train to Sheffield and then change for Barnsley Exchange which is six minutes walk from the ground.
