STOKE CITY V COVENTRY CITY MONDAY NOVEMBER 6TH AT 8PM
AT THE BRITANNIA STADIUM,STANLEY MATTHEWS WAY,STOKE ON TRENT,STAFFS ST4 4EG
WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in either 1863 or 1868 depending on which source you believe. A club called Stoke Ramblers was formed by railway workers at the North Staffordshire Railway Company. This club went bust in 1908 and a new Stoke City FC was formed.
The Potters first league game was in September 1888 and saw a 2-0 defeat to West Brom. This game took place at the Victoria Ground- Stoke's home until they moved to the Britannia Stadium in 1997.
Stoke were founder members of the Football League in 1888 but were not relected two seasons later only to come back into the league the next year. They remained in the Football League until they were relegated from it in 1907. Financial problems forced another resignation but Stoke were back in 1919 and have stayed members ever since.
Sky Blues On The Road - Stoke City
They have won Division Two on three occasions and were promoted into the Championship in 2002. Stoke have won the League Cup in 1972, The Autoglass Trophy in 1992 and the Auto Windscreens Shield in 2000.
Their current manager is Tony Pullis who took over from Johan Boskamp in June.
