Mirror Football has reported that Newcastle United had offered £1m for Coventry City Striker Leon Best, prompting his move to Tyne side on the last day of the January transfer window.
Leon Best had rejected a new contract with 'City and would have left the Ricoh in the summer.
Reports earlier in the month had suggested that Coventry were looking for between £1m and £1.5m for the Republic of Ireland striker, and if the £1m fee is correct then 'City chairman Ray Ranson has got one million pounds for a player with who would have played a maximum of three months and reduced the club's wage bill.
The departure of this seasons top striker will leave the team short of fire power and with the emergency loan window opening shortly, Sky Blues manager will have to prove that he was correct when he said time had run out for any permanent deals and would have to look at loans for the remainder of the season.
Chris Coleman's priority now is to find a replacement striker and a left back.
