Shrewsbury Town's assistant manager Michael Jackson has said that it was a good game to watch as his side beat Coventry City 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Speaking to his club's website, Jackson said: “It was a good game to watch.
“Some of the games we’ve been involved in recently have not been a great football spectacle but I think that tonight, everyone who came to the game has got value for money and I thought both teams, going toe to toe, was a great game to watch. It’s a great result for us.”
Town had conceded a goal and several openings within the first nine minutes of the game before on-loan Crystal Palace forward Kaikai drew them level, with Shaun Whalley grabbing the winner before half-time, a great effort considering the amount of games recently.
“I think they started the brighter and caught us a little bit on the hop.
“They caused us a few problems with their pace. But we started to get to grips with the pace of the game.
“But after that we got a goal back at the right time and then gone on from there.
“It’s a great performance and great work levels considering it’s our forth or fifth game in a few days.”
And Jackson had praise to lavish upon his goalscorers.
“We’ve seen him (Sullay) do that when he first came here and that’s why we’ve brought him back because at this time of the season he can always score a goal,” said Jackson.
“His movement’s good and he looked quite fit considering he’s not played a lot of games. I’m delighted for him.
“Shaun’s done great. I didn’t think he was going to score a header – he’s supposed to be taking the free-kicks.
“To be fair to Shaun he’s worked really hard and he knows that the first goal he’s given the ball away and they’ve gone and scored from that. That’s how honest he is, he apologised for that at half-time and he’s gone and got the goal for us. He’s done great.”
In what was an enthralling game, full of chances and excellent displays of counter-attacking football, Jackson was delighted to get a victory over what he calls one of the best teams to visit the Greenhous Meadow this season and in front of a bouncing Greenhous Meadow.
“We always wanted to get at them with the pace that we have,” he admitted.
“The crowd got behind us all. That was the plan to get at them early on but as the game goes on you’re hanging on a little bit but that’s natural.
“I think they’re one of the best sides that we’ve faced here all season. The movement they’ve got at the top end of the pitch with (Adam) Armstrong and (Jacob) Murphy; you’re not going to come up against much better quality than that. They’ve got some good players but I thought we defended excellently around our box like we have done for the last two or three games and it’s a great result for us.
“We spoke about it the other day, me and Mick about the atmosphere and we agreed that we’ve got to give them something to shout about and we’ve done that since the Southend game.
“We’ve got people off their seats and they can see what we’re trying to do. We’re attacking more and we’ve got more dynamic. Sometimes it’s a bit like a basketball game with the end to end attacking.”
