Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins felt that his side’s 2-0 win at Pelsall Villa in an FA Vase First Round tie provided the reaction from his players that he was looking for.
Hopkins told the Sphinx website: “It was a good reaction following the poor performance at Heath Hayes. “We trained hard and worked on a few bits leading up to Saturday’s game. With watching them and knowing about their pitch, it formed a good game plan that the lads stuck to. It wasn’t pretty at all, but you’re never going to play football on that pitch that does look good to the eye.
“The lads did the job as asked and that was to ensure we are in the draw on Monday morning. Whether we won 10-0 or 2-0, it's the same end result and without being disrespectful,l we were the better team and in control of the game.
I’m happy for Ricky Cutting getting back on the score-sheet. In the last couple of games that he's been back for, he's been working hard and he needed a goal. And once again, Matty Bannister worked hard and picked up another goal to add to his tally.
We will train hard this week and prepare for Tividale again. This time, it’s in the league, so we will see if we can dent their 100 per cent league record and keep it to pure wins over them this season.”
